Objectives: To acquire a deeper understanding of the use of grammar forms and to improve the skills of word formation and language use. Also to learn some new grammatical categories and their functions at an advanced /proficiency level.

The student is expected to:

  • acquire advanced understanding of the grammatical system and grammatical units;
  • acquire advanced knowledge of the morphological rules in English and enhanced skills in their application;
  • use an adequate grammatical form depending on the context;
  • explain the choice of the form in English;
  • be able to find the theoretical underpinnings for the choice of the grammatical form.

Organization mode of students` individual assignment: regular home assignments, mid-term tests, studies of theory

Evaluation of learning outcomes at least 70% attendance, successfully passed mid-term tests (at least 70% result), a successfully passed final test (at least 70%).

Course outline:

1.Noun: gender, plural, case, word formation.

2.Article.

3. Pronouns and other determiners.

4. Adjectives; degrees of comparison.

5. Adverbs; degrees of comparison.

6. Verbs, tenses. State verbs. Reflexive verbs. Gerund.

7. Phrasal verbs.

8. Common collocations; idioms.

9. Spelling. British/American English.
