Study course objective

 

To develop better reading comprehension of original texts, in view to their subsequent translation

To expand the knowledge of certain aspects of Spanish grammar: reflexive verbs, direct and indirect object pronouns, as well as the various past tenses.

To increase the students’ vocabulary in Spanish, and to improve their speaking skills in social settings

 

Study results

1. Students learn the basics of Spanish grammar (level A2), and gain a deeper understanding of how it applies to everyday communicative situations.

2. Students can translate adapted texts regarding a variety of standard topics (e.g. city life, family life, social situations, holidays) from sources such as journals, tourist leaflets, personal blogs.

3. Students acquire speaking skills for interpersonal communication in a variety of settings, with a special emphasis on everyday situations and informal settings.

4. Students improve their listening and reading comprehension of Spanish, both from multimedia and real-life environments.

 

Organization mode of students’ individual work

The independent work of students include: 

-          a regular learning of the course by using lecture materials, study literature, internet resources, 

-          homework assignment completion,  

-          preparations for the tests and exams.

 

Evaluation of Learning Outcomes

The end result is made of:

  • Attendance and active participation: 10 %
  • In-class work and assignments: 60%
  • Exam: 30%

Attendance is mandatory: more than 4 unexcused absences will seriously compromise the final grade. In view of promoting active participation and focus on the tasks at hand, the use of laptops is not allowed during lessons and the use of electronic devices is strongly discouraged.
